After Effects 7 New Features

I just started production on my second title for Lynda.com entitled After Effects 7 New Features. It will cover all of the cool new features that will be a part of the next release. As you can tell I had to obscure my monitor due to the NDA contract I signed. But I just wanted to let you know that this release is incredible! Sorry to be such a tease :-)

I’ll let you know when it comes out,
Lee

Commentary

  1. Sean Foushee says:

I can’t wait for this upgrade, but more importantly, now that Adobe and Macromedia are one in the same I’m waiting to hear how much integration we can expect between AE and Flash in the near future!

Flash issues aside, I do hope they fixed the one nagging issue I’ve had with AE for some time: the outdated GUI.

  2. Erik says:

    This is just mean. :)

  3. Erik says:

Oh, btw, when is AE7 expected to be released?

  4. Steve says:

I saw the new AE demo at MAX 2005 and the UI was defintely updated. Looked very nice.

Lee, can you give us a bit of a tease about when AE7 will hit the streets?

  5. Lee Brimelow says:

I’m being completely honest when I say that I have no idea when it’s going public. I would guess that it wouldn’t be too much longer though.

  6. Steve Kilisky says:

I’m not allowed to say when it will hit the streets, but if you are in the L.A. area this event might be of interest ;-)

    Happy Holidays!

    Steve

  8. Karel says:

Keyboard on a towel, one of the best features! :P

  9. rob says:

I hope this version will have some real time previewing ala Apple Motion. When it comes to renders and previews AE it’s slower than frozen molasses . I’ve seen the demo at the macromedia site, It really looks a lot better ( nicer interface) But the one thing I really want to see with this version is real time previews. I ‘ll upgrade to version 7 if this become a reality.

  10. Lee Brimelow says:

Karel, I have to do that to minimize the sound of my typing. Without it, it sounds like I’m slamming my fingers down.

  11. Karel says:

Very cool and cheap solution! ;-)

  12. Gregory says:

Can’t wait! What software do you use to do your screen captures for the training?

  13. Lee Brimelow says:

Gregory, I use Camtasia froma company called Techsmith. It’s the best for the PC.

  14. Navarro Parker says:

I’m curious if Adobe is waiting for the Mac/Intel transition to release this? NAB? Or are bugs with the whole 2.0 Premeire Pro/Audition/Encore package is holding it back?

I will be very disappointed if AE 7 ships and won’t run natively on Intel Macs. (That means I’ll have to wait 3 years for 7.5 to be released!)

  15. Mamoon says:

I really love the way adobe interfaces influence my work, but it would be nice to see more integration between Illustrator and after effects, especially to have some simple drawing technics to take place of either working with maskes or importing even simple things from illustrator.

  16. andy says:

What are the curves like? the graph editor.. that’s what i reckon is the biggest flaw at the moment in 6.5. Can’t wait for 7.

  17. Tony Dockery says:

Not to change the subject “BUT” I recently bought into the Lynda.com tutorials..$25 month no source files …cost to much to also pay for them sourcey fla thingys lol….anyway the tutorials are ok if your a noob but hey I wasnt I wanted to learn some nice tricks and shortcuts in flash but they dont offer many practical uses only long drawn out learning tuts …for the money they should offer more advanced tutorials showing practical applications of flash and then them sourcey fla thingys would be worth the extra cash…..

“Thanks Lee for your free lessons ….that should be an example to all them would be “give me your money and ill show you how ” guys

Hey Lee! Your title is now live! Check it out: http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=203

    Best,

  20. Tom Daigon says:

Lee, your training material on AE7 is just what Ive been looking for. Unfortunatley, I look on my investment as a reference material to be used over the years. I would gladly purchase your DVD in a heartbeat. I cant imagine anyone limiting their access to online streaming only. I think Lynda.com is a ineffeicient way to absorb information over time. Anyway, if you ever make it available on DVD please let me know!

  21. justine lack says:

Hey can you help me with something? What is the name of a flash movie that expands outside of the actual box (ex. 400 x 400) I have seen it alot in Yahoo! and several other pages. I hope you understand what I am asking. Thanks Justine
