As many of you know I just returned from my first trip to South America and I had an amazing time presenting to Flash designers and developers across Brasil and Colombia. I was surprised not only by the amount of people who attended but also the tremendous enthusiasm for the Flash Platform. I came away with a strong feeling that we are that we need to do much more than we are in the region. Unfortunately Adobe does not have a significant local presence in Latin America aside from some employees in Mexico and an amazing and overworked team in Brasil. |
The biggest hurdle for evangelists to come to Latin America is simply budget. This is especially true in these economic times. What I would like to put together is a plan where I can come and deliver a full-day workshop to companies or groups in Latin America on a wide-range of topics relating to the Flash Platform. This would be a great opportunity to have an intensive, on-site training with someone direct from Adobe. The only cost you would have to incur would be my airfare to get me to wherever you are located. I will take care of the rest. You can get training for your whole team for less than it would cost to send one person to a conference.
From the Adobe side this would be extremely beneficial as well as we would also be able to present to the local user groups and connect with the local Adobe community. These are communities that we really need to get better acquainted with. Now this is just an idea I’m putting out there to gauge the interest for such a thing. But I think it would be something that would greatly benefit both the Flash community south of the equator and Adobe as well. Tell me what you think.
Lee

I think it is great! and I am going to announce the idea, we wait so much time for a proposal of this, punishment that is in so turbulent period.
I love the iniciative, would love it more if extended to other countries other than latin america, like Spain and Portugal.
Great Job… But what about Europe and Middle East?
Congratiulations Lee. Its a very very good idea and nice initiative. Thanks for share so easy your knowledge.
cheers
That would be great. I think we really need this type of initiative here in the South America, especially for those places that don’t have many events or real trainnings like that.
Is an excellent idea, here in Argentina we haven´t conferences or large events of web development. Although it is gradually growing.
I hope someday Lee, with a rich roast.
Hi Lee, this is just great!
I have always thought that South America has excellent talent. It just needs some motivation and somebody who would say: your are great and we need you.
Colombia, the country I live in, has had a series of bad reputations across the globe. But in this poor country, I have seen people who have an great talent.
This is a country surrounded by a beautiful nature, we have over 1000 species in our tropical forest that only exist there! This is the only country where you can see snow and drive some hours and see the bluest ocean!
Just imagine a creative person who live with this.
Personally I will contribute in everything that I can to help the Colombia Adobe Team.
Adobe can’t afford to pay for your plane ticket to go and promote their products ? Seriously ?
This is a great idea! like i mentioned on twitter, we can wait to have you here in Costa Rica. The company I work for (avventa.com) is very interested on your proposal. I’m sure you’ll not only make a great workshop but have a great time on this beautiful country.
I’d love to see more Latin American companies supporting this idea, who knows maybe this is the beginning of a big south american tour… hmmm i think you may start writing a diary, like El Che Guevara. lol
This is a great Idea Lee and I want to say that in my country ( Egypt ) we need some attention of Adobe cause I know a lot of flash platform designers and developers with great Ideas and skills .
I hope you may give Adobe a little push to look at us
I think it is great Lee. I am just curious though, why Chile wasn’t considered for this first trip to SA?
hahaha Illarious request. To learn in english? I had to teach my team english first.
We in Brazil need more specialist peoples as you for to achieve much more about Flash Plataform.
wouldn’t it make sense for Adobe to foot the bill as you’re essentially going down there to peddle their products? the audience would essentially be 100% Adobe paying customers, coming to listen to an Adobe representative; makes sense to me.
Wow it’s amazing initiative!!!! We hope to see u comming soon at Mexico City!! =)
hey lee when you will come to Tunisia (north Africa)
This would be very nice Lee, in México there are a lot of people involved in development about flash platform. I think Patrick Suquet gonna establish contact with you if not please send me your email for coordinate this great idea. Thanks a lot for your initiative, since here is not common bring killer developers like you.
Thanks in advance
Would this extend to the Caribbean as well?
@Carlos aprendo Español. So between that and the technical nature of the workshop, I think it would be fine.
@Lionel of course!!
@Renato again it all comes down to budget. Believe me I would have loved to come to Chile. But right now we have to be really conservative with our travel budget.
@Peepo Adobe does not have an unlimited budget to travel. Just like the rest of the world we are having to watch every penny in these tough economic times.
Hi Lee,
Yeah, would be amazing if we had a little more attention here. We have great developers and an amazing (and active) community.
We expect to see you soon here again!
Have a great day!
ps: About learn in english, I think most of all devs around here speaks a little or at least can read ok. IMHO, I don’t think that would be such an obstacle.
@lee yes learn english!!! i remember in the flash camp bogota when you said all the time “solamente” haha that was very funny
you’re welcome
thanks for coming here and come soon
Hey Lee, it would be awesome if you could come to Argentina. We have a growing community of Flash developers and designers eager to know more about the platform.
srry double posting.. in the last post i meant spanish
This is a good notice, and great advance. When realize projects or conferencies in Venezuela?
Cool man! I am from Peru and i like to see u here!. I gonna call all the flash people here and pay u ticket jeje.
See u there! (i hope)
I totally agree with you Lee. It seems to me that the enthusiasm in Southamerica is huge. Maybe we don`t have all the knowledge but the enthusiasm is definitely there. Greetings from Peru.
Would you be willing to go to Argentina as well?
We’ve talked to Igor about it before, wonder what the So. American community thinks about having a 360|Flex down there? Adobe could support, without anywhere near the full MAX or even UG tour budgeting.
What do you guys think?
Hi Lee! I think its a great idea to visit Latin America, a great chance to know the Adobe’s products and Adobe Evangelists, its a disgrace that Adobe team didn´t visit other countries, I live in México and I’d like that all you (the Adobe team) came here, maybe someday it could happen! I´ve seen your tutorials (in gotoandlearn and lynda.com sites) since three years ago, I´ve learned toooooo muuuuuuuuuuuuch!! Thanks Lee for everything, I´d like to be like you someday, your work is excellent because you combine amazing designs with awesome and step by step easy code!!!
Thanks to share everything you know with us,a simple mortals!!!
* Next month I´ll try to get the Flex ACE certification, the most I´ve learn has been for your online and books teaching: Phillip Kerman, Joey Lott,Dwane Nicknull, Mike Chambers, Serge Jespers, of couse my BEST MASTER: LEE BRIMELOW.
well, I´m really excited to see all the buzz that an eventual Adobe´s LATAM trip has caused.
I like to think that part of that decision was the huge success of Flash Camp Bogota. For the guy in Chile who asked why Lee didn´t go to Santiago, well, I think Bogota was not on Adobe´s plan either! The thing is that we did a great lobby from the local User Group. We “begged” for months! but it was worth it.
We have always had in mind to host a mini MAX for all the region in Bogota (or any other capital) and we have working hard to make it happen. The 500 attendees to this month´s Flash Camp are proof of that.
let´s keep the pressure on Adobe and eventual sponsors to have an anual AUG tour from the evangelists team!!
Back in the days of Macromedia, they used to come to Mexico to give conferences, it would be nice to have that again.
Btw. come on, a plane ticket to mexico is cheaper than one CS4 suite license! you don’t think Adobe can handle it?
Another idea: how about finding local people willing to do the job, previously trained with you Adobe guys, I guess some arrangements could be made.
Also I think that kind of local exposure to the platform would help a lot to meet other developers… more than once I had to turn down freelances from other parts of the world just because I can’t find people with the correct skills to help me with the big amount of work
