Last night in Paris Mike debuted the new raw microphone access feature coming in AIR 2.0. This is a feature that has been asked for for years and I’m really happy to see it finally rolling out. The date on the video is off by a day but I don’t have time to re-encode it right now. Now you may be tempted to ask whether this feature will roll out in the next version of Flash Player as well. That is something that I can’t talk about right now.
Lee

So… Is this rolling out in the next version of the Flash Player as well? :p Just kidding. Great stuff. Love the fisheye btw.
Is there a recording of the complete session somewhere? Really wondering what else has been debuted :p
really cool
This opens a whole can of awesomeness!!
WOW!!!! Amazing!
Looking forward to this!
Fantastic! Can’t wait to get my hands on it!
I was there
Thanks Lee, Mike and Tontons Flexeurs for this night
OnClick not OnLick
Sweet!
I have indeed been waiting for this for ages.
Thnx Mic Chambers
YES!!! Represent >> http://www.getmicrophone.com
Thanks for blogging this Lee.
Great presentation Mike.
And very big applauses to Lee for his presentation of ByteArray class … great ftp application
.. Lee .. Do you want a tissue ??
J’adore cette nouvelle fonctionnalité!
i am waiting for the new version
finally an idea for a desktop app with flash, that I have had for a long long time now, is capable of being written completely in as3; however, if the web player would enable a whole heap of possibilities. Imagine web sites with simple voice response in the navigation, or the ability to pre-process sound before getting sent to the server for analysis. Hob Nox or applications of the like will really rock.
OHH HELL YES Lee & Mesh!
represent!

Awesome! Yeesh, Lee, I hope you feel better, that sniffling and coughing sounds pretty obnoxious…
Leeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
Adobe does care! ( = O
Yeah but is AIR 2.0 going to have installer interfaces that look exactly like the OS’s native app installation interfaces? Why do AIR installer interfaces have to be different?
Awesome. One leap closer to web-based speech recognition!
Due to company policy I can’t use AIR.
So is there a way to do this in Flash??
@Eric I don’t know if you can call my sniffing and coughing obnoxious. I had the flu.
is there a simple top level function (like Math.abs) to wait, or sleep before continuing inside a function scope?
function do stuff():void
{
var barbarian:BruteClass = new BruteClass(‘Red Hammer’);
barbarian.pilferTreasures();
Util.wait(1000)
{
Town.weap();
}
}
I wish Adobe built more native utility functions like that into as3, and maybe there is and I’ve overlooked it, but I just tossed a timer into a static method in a utility class that takes a number, and function as parameters.
wow, awesome
)
I don’t understand why there is such an excitement about such a simple feature? It would be amazing if Adobe would anounce an HTML tag, say like Googles that could interprete Actionscript and MXML files at runtime without any need of a “Flash Player” at all, so Flash would be accesible to so many devices. By the way, this should be the “open screen project” goal, and not to let Manufacturer implement the Propietary Flash Player, instead of just supporting HTML5.
But anyway, at least some good news …
Alex
… I meant like Google’s canvas tag
@Alex it’s because this “simple feature” can be used to create a wide range of really interesting applications.
Awesome, this “simple feature” it’s what i was been waiting months to complete an app that i’m developing… thank’s a lot guys!!!
Kimbo Slice lost as you predicted. But I thought he looked impressive anyway. The question is, does he have enough time left in his career to develop a ground game? Or at least a very solid takedown defense? Clearly he’ll need one or both to really be a MMA fighter.
It was great talking with you Lee. Hope you’re feeling better. Take care.
for god’s sake, just use video capture software to show the computer, or lock the camera down on a tripod and film the screen that everyone in the room is watching. totally obnoxious sniffly-cam action.
for people who invent amazing tools, your presentation skills just plain SUCK.
@Bob LOL you are obviously just trying to get a rise out of me so I will oblige you. Go screw yourself asshead.
Awesome~!
I’ve really wanted this stuff for a long time.
Thanks Adobe!!
