I’ve just finished my first experiment with creating Flash tutorials for the video iPod and am really happy with the results. Now you can learn Flash on the train, in the doctor’s office, on a plane, etc. This first tutorial shows you the basics of creating scrubber and slider bars which have thousands of uses inside of Flash. I’m not sure if these will be downloadable from the gotoAndLearn() site or if I will get a separate domain name for these. But for now, download the first tutorial and let me know what you think. Click on the image below to download the ZIP file which contains the iPod-ready video tutorial.

Ditto! What he said ^^^.
Lee Brimelow never stops!!
This rules so hard. I always try and check these out at work, but rarely have time. Now that is no longer a problem. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thanks for raising the bar (again
) Lee. Got myPod a month ago and filled it with FlashTV, PhotoshopTV, and Boagworld podcasts. This would top all of them. Have you considered podcasting them?
lee,
this is the coolest. thanks!
p.s. more! more! more!
Totally. Undeniably. Unequivocally. Awesome.
This is sweet thanks Lee. You help us students a lot.
LOVELY! thank you for that!
Hey Lee! Great work here. No iPod yet, but I’m really considering it now! Thanks!
Well technically you can still watch the file on your computer as its just an MPEG4 file. But it looks especially nice on the iPod.
Hi Lee. Really great idea. I have a video ipod and I have my full show reel of animation projects, short films & TV adverts that I have worked on loaded onto it. It’s replaced my powerbook as my pitching device. Of course I have my full discography of music on it too. I was one to one mentoring final year degree animation students last week and used my ipod to demonstrate principles in a discrete manner that didn’t interfere with other students. Your iPod Flash tutorials will no doubt be used in a similar manner. btw. I’m building a new flash site for my post production work that integrates some of your brilliant tutorials. Coming very soon. Respect! Mike.
Great idea, your works always rules!
Thanks.
Thanks everyone for the kind words
Great site. I was just converting a handful of tutorials for my ipod and just noticed your email. Excellent. This will definitely save me some time in the future.
VERY NICE!!! Keep up the great work!
lol. I thought you woule get somthing like gotoAndPodcast.com gotoAndPod.com or mabey a sub domian lie ipod.gotoandLearn.com
Awsome though. I will have to keep working on my iPod Nano video hack.
Heh its funny you mention that Edward. About 5 minutes after I registered it I called MediaTemple and cancelled it. It just didn’t sound right. So the hunt continues
Actually your subdomain idea is a great one! That might be just what I end up doing.
Thanks
Such perfect timing, we are going camping in Mojave this weekend and I was finding videos for the drive. Excellent idea!
Lee,
I’ve use what I learn from your Toots on my own sites within hours of watching! Thank you so much for your time and dedication.

Ha! That’s great. I wish I had some more done already. Have fun camping.
Great idea. Now you need to get lynda.com to do the same thing!
Lee, great idea…now I can learn at the gym too…you rock
I would assume this works just as well for the PSP. Will let you know soon!
Rich, Let me know about the PSP thing. Because I could also output to that format if it needs to be different
Love gotoandlearn keep up the amazing work! Now, i’m tempted more than ever to get a new ipod…. Maybe you should cut a deal? lol
Can you play this mp4 file on a PC?

walkandlearn.com?
Hi, i think its a great idea, i dont have an ipod video meself (I only have a Creative Zen Touch 20GB), but if i do purchage a ipod video in the future, this first video will no doubt be on it.
Greetings by Dave, from the netherlands.
Hi Lee
Great idea about the ipod thingy, now, i don’t have an ipod, but my mobile phone play’s mp4 format (SE K750i), so i was wondering if you could make the videos in the size of a SE k750i, problably k750 in us, phone (176×222), i think that other phones have that size to.
Thanks
Peter Nielsen (from Europe)
Lee, I think you sould be an iPod salesman. Imagine the commision.
i love you, man!!
lee, how about http://handheld.gotoandlearn.com
then you could export them to all sorts of formats, for iPod, PSP.. etc..
zeph.
ps. great idea!
Well I’m trying to convince Lynda.com to do a weekly iPod tutorial. Send them an email telling them you want it
i wish i were half as brilliant as lee…this is such a great idea!! i like this tutorial format better than the tutorials at gotoAndLearn() NOT because i’m an avid iPod user (still haven’t shelled out for one), but because the smaller window size of the movie in the quicktime player allows me to run the tutorial alongside my flash window and learn by watching and doing at the same time. AND…if i play the movie in my real player, i can even keep the movie on top of my flash window so i can use my entire monitor for my flash interface. thanks, lee! i hope all of your brilliance is making you millions. : )
You also could use 2 monitors, very cheap nowadays!
So my plan now is to make two versions of every tutorial. One for the site and one for iPod. They will have to be edited differently but I think it’s worth the extra effort. I’ll be adding an iPod download area to the gotoAndLearn site. Look for it soon.
Oh and by the way, Michael Ninness over at Lynda.com let me know that they already have a video podcast. It even has some of my tutorials on it. Check it out at http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=121879948
Something I dont uderstand is that with these tutorials, sat at a computer, you can actually try it out, that way you learn as you watch.
I tend to pause the tutorial, do what you just said, and resume the video – that way I learn! And im sure many people do the same.
With an ipod on the move, you cant really do that. Ermm.
zeph.
Keep this up!! you are so great!! really appreicated!!!
Joel from Hong Kong
Yes optimally you would always have a computer in front of you. But I think you can learn really well just by watching especially if you’re just sitting on a plane for 20 hours or something. But you bring up a good point. The iPod tutorials might be more theory and less actual hands on.
keep it up. Your video tutorials are awsome.
In case you didn’t know, this same mp4′s work on Sony’s PSP as well. I know that’s how I’ll be viewing these
.
Hi Lee
this is just amazing stuff you produce here you are a credit to your proffession and just and outstanding gentalmen well done!
John,
Does the PSP have the same 320×240 resolution?
Thanks Keith for the kind words
Wow this is great, i’m a huge fan of gotoandlearn.com and this is a great new feature!!!
All i have to do now is purcase an iPod Video :S
lowely…………
Hi–
A few weeks ago I had asked about the downloadable flash tutorials(for the Ipod). I still haven’t recieved a response, and I am interested in checking out the footage. As I work all the time, my best time to watch things is on my 1 1/2 hours drive to and from work. So, the ipod doc’s are what I’m most interested in. If you could get back to me, I would be greatly appreciative.
I am a multimedia student at the University of Maine. Thank you for your time–
Good day–
McKeag
