Flash 9 Sound Spectrum – Part 2

Here’s another fun one that I did last night. It looks like I did some crazy 3D Actionscript here but I’m simply moving the y property of a static 3D cube. Hey what can I say, it works. Click on it to check it out. If you want the source then click here.

Lee :-)

Very cool, I’m loving the experiment explosion that is going on with as3 at the moment.

  2. Erik says:

Haha, I must say that I’m stunned by your current production rate, Lee. How do you find time? :)

  3. Can we create a doppler efect with flash 9?

  4. Hey Lee, why don’t you embed source right into the swf? :) Nice example, keep on rocking!

  5. xeonarno says:

    Hello lee,

Very nice initiative about the animation. I think that it’s going to appear some new animation with sound effect on the web.

I’ve got a question. Is there a temple where I can prey for you, Lee God of the Flash ?

    Bye,

    Xeonarno

eache time i try to open the .swf from the source file I get this:

Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error.
    at Timeline0_9a4cc835a78474a9668a99e7d526c8/::frame1()
    and it does nothing
    did I do something wrong?

  7. mimmy says:

    oh sorry my mistake

  8. rich says:

    Lee,
Adobe has been less than clear about the flash 9 “preview”. Are they looking at the “preview” as an update just to add AS3? And do you think it’s a stable enough copy to start doing production work?

Have you noticed any problems when still building AS2 stuff in the preview since FP9 is not in wide enough use to warrent migrating current projects?

Woah, that computeSpectrum method looks snazzy… even better with Sublime! ;)

    Great examples! Cheers

  10. Pixelmixer says:

    @Mimmy

I get the same error on my custom apps, it seems it has something to do with security issues. I can’t play anything of mine through a browser.. its actually quite annoying, trying to figure it out right now.

  11. Pixelmixer says:

Actually the problem was my local security settings… I had my security publish settings for flash set to access network only.. which caused problems. Setting it to access local files only fixed this for me.

  12. beatfreak says:

Nothing seems to work for me. Tested it in a few browsers and even the animations on this very site do not work.

  13. Lee Brimelow says:

Yeah for some reason the computeSpectrum() runs inside the security sandbox so you can only do it to files that are in the same domain as your SWF. Why that is I don’t know.

  14. iBrent says:

I had similar problems with the sandbox security issue and could not play any of these Flash 9 sound files. I was able to view them in IE. I believe the reason has to do with ActiveX controls. Flash Player 9 requires a browser that supports ActiveX controls. FireFox does not natively support this. Once I downloaded the ActiveX plugin, I was able to view the Flash 9 examples in FF.

    HTH,

    iBrent

I tried to make Sound-Driven Animation you did b4 (with flash 8 and after effects 7) lee and i noticed that rather much commands disappeared. like the anysound.duration or anysound.position and stuf like that. Do you know ware they have left those?… thx

  16. beatfreak says:

Noticed some strange things. Flash 9 works fine on one of my old eMac computers at work but doesn’t work at home on my dual G5.

    hi,

We found an issue with FLASH 9 .i m useing the same above code but i got problem when loding and playing the mp3 songs.

The last 10 to 15% portion of mp3 file is not getting loaded into memory/buffer

so that the song is not playing completly .Song is stop before the end length(duration) of mp3. As a result Waveform is not generated completly

if any idea to solve this prob. pls, help m its very urgent to me

    Hi,

Great work guys! Kudos for putting so much work into this and sharing it. Neelts and Lee, can you send me your contact info, just incase I need some Actionscript development in the future? It’s hard to find really advanced Actionscripters here in Austin. Thanks again! My email is jimmycomedown@yahoo.com, I don’t want to display my work email because of spam.

    Thanks,
    Jaime
