3D Paint with Papervision3D!

This takes the cake as the best Papervision3D demo so far. Pierre Lepers from the LowLevel blog has created interactive Papervision3D where you can airbrush 3D objects. Wowza! While this demo is great, the really cool thing is that you download his Papervision event classes so that you can build your own interactive 3D stuff. Awesome work!

How can I move the scene in Safari 2.5 on OS X? Ctrl, Alt and Apple-Key does not work (opens Flash Player menu)

The papervision 3D mailing list is full of great examples like this.

These aren’t exactly PPV3D exclusive, but heres a couple things that I’m pretty excited about, and it seems at least some of the other Papervision 3D guys are excited about them too.

Is gotoandlearn been shut down for a while or has lee been busy lately with WPF and frog to not add more tutorials? Just wondering.

I have to admit, I’m not totally sold on the idea that all of this 3-D in Flash is really a useful direction to go in, or is all that cool. The number of applications which use 3-D well which are not games are relatively few, and the number of important web-based applications that use 3-D are practically nil (in any case, I can’t think of any). A real 3-D engine in Flash is a nice trick, I guess, but pseudo-3-D engines have been around a long time and from what I can tell can be made to look a lot better. That particular demo up above is only interesting because it was done in Flash; if it was done in DirectX it would be regarded as a relic from 1995. It probably has some clever programming in it to get it to work so fast, but I doubt it will have many applications, and I’m not sure I totally buy the idea that re-creating 1995-era 3-D technology in Flash is really the best use of anyone’s time (and certainly not the best use of Flash).
