Sothink SWF Decompiler for Mac!

I just got word that my favorite decompiler is now available for OS X! I’m really starting to run out of reasons to use Windows at this point. I’ve done some basic tests with this version and everything seems to work exactly the same way as the Windows version. One of the only things that seems to be missing is color coding of AS code which is nice to have when using the Windows version of the tool. No more having to use VMWare or Parallels simply to decompile something. Good news!

As a side note, Sothink has also released a free update to the Windows version giving it a new UI and it also groups ActionScript in package folders which is awesome!

Hello there Lee, it looks like Sothink people missed to upload (http://www2.sothink.com/download/swfdec.zip) the trial file :(

    Very very good news!

  4. Yesss!! thanks Lee!!

  5. Nik Rowell says:

Great news… except that I’m already using the Windows version and running it in Parallels! Perhaps they’ll let me transfer the license.

  6. Hey Lee,

Yea I got myself a copy of it and it works great. So much better than other decompilers where it automatically generates a .fla with generic instance names etc. This product is really great for traversing large projects.

Awesome… now all I need is a for Slysoft to release DVDCopy for Mac and I can delete Parallels of my hard drive.

  9. I’ve seen Dreamweaver CS4, Fireworks CS4 and Soundbooth CS4. Where’s the Flash CS4 beta?

  10. PS – I don’t mean to be rude, but I don’t think the new interface looks very good, though I understand the thinking behind the plain look! It is definitely more useable though…

  11. …Just had a good look at the programs on my Mac Pro, and I’ve actually found the interface quite cool now that I’m getting used to it :) Good Job Adobe – still can’t wait for Flash CS4 beta.

  12. Freddy says:

Hi Lee, how it compares with eltima’s Flash decompiler?

  13. Chris says:

I just wound up buying this and i think it’s pretty good. It seems to break everything into classes when you export the fla, but that’s actually really good for learning OOP. Overall, it’s pretty good and I agree, no reason to fire up Windows at all anymore.

    Great! Thanks Lee ;)
    See you in Warsaw

And for those of you looking to lock down a SWF so it won’t get decompiled, there’s SWF encrypt:

  17. protected says:

Sothink decompiler (and other software on their site) contains a keylogger… according to extremely reliable sources

Expect to see it in Norton virus definition DB before long…

I just tried to run the free download DMG from: http://www.sothink.com/product/flash-decompiler-for-mac/index.htm
and it doesn’t appear to do anything. Is it corrupt, you think? Anyone else had problems?

  19. nebiyou says:

is there any way to protect the swf files from being decompiled, only by using actionscript

  20. John Barrett says:

Can I ask a question about this?
I am a newbie at flash, and a friend asked me to work on his site but here is no .fla file. Will this software create the .fla from the swf file?just like if the .fla was never lost therefore allowing me to edit the .fla to make changes.

    Thanks so much,
    Johnny

I decompiled an swf that I can see has actionscript in the preview of the file, however when the fla is created all the actions in the actions pannel come up question marks and spaces (??????? ??? ????? ??????????? ??….) every frame or mc with actions has this problem. I can copy and paste out of SWF Dec into the correct frames in flash, but it seems like that is what the program should do.
    thanks!
