European AIR Tour Stop 4 – Prague

Today we put on the fourth stop on the tour in Prague. We arrived here on Saturday and had the weekend to sightsee and recharge our batteries. We are staying at the Angelo Hotel, which is a very modern hotel and has some very unfriendly staff. But I must say that they do have the best showers so far in Europe.

On Sunday we got a tour of the Staropramen Brewery, which is where we held today’s event. Not being a big beer drinker, I was probably the least interested in the process of fermenting beer, but it was still interesting nonetheless. Our beer guzzling members of the tour, Andre and Ryan, were definitely in their element. I got some pretty funny footage that will be a part of my highlight video that I’ll edit when I get home.

We arrived early this morning for the usual Guitar Hero setup and testing (it’s a tough job) and a nice breakfast. The venue was two floors again with the presentation area upstairs and the “Evangelism Corner” downstairs. We expected the smallest turnout of the tour in Prague but we actually filled almost all of the seats. The crowd was more designer-focused than in other cities, which was great from my perspective.

Ryan delivered the keynote again. During this time I completely bumped him off the Guitar Hero leader board with a perfect 100% game. As it stands now, it is me and Mike on the board, with Ryan nowhere to be seen. Speaking of Ryan, I gave him a Speed8 ampule, which is a super-caffeinated supplement that I got at the downtown mall. He chased it with RedBull followed by a beer and showed everyone why he’s on the A-list.

My session went fairly well but some of the jokes got mangled in translation. The fart and burp soundboard was met with mostly silence. I’m not sure if they didn’t like it or if they were confused with why I was playing them. If you were in the crowd today, let me know. The MyBossIsComing application is a definite crowd-pleaser as goofing off at work is something that people in all cultures can relate to.

Thanks Prague for a great time and all of the feedback you gave us. You have a beautiful city!

Lee

Hey, Lee.I had watch the WWDC 08 Event and I’m really getting worry about the Flash’s Future.
AIR and Flash/Flex is cool. But if these features cannot land on the iPhone.I cannot imagine how many lose will be on the Flash Platform.
I know Apple is really an uncharitable gaint which give many clag on Adobe. But losing iPhone meaning losing the future(If Adobe is still counting on Flash lite or The Open Screen Project).I’m just SO worried.
Looking into What Balmer had said before. He is meaning Adobe’s Traditional Market will become fade out.And The Flash Platform will be Adobe’s Future.See Through The Vista failure,Flash have to conquer the iPhone.Adobe had been too late to release the AMP or the PSE, Acrobat.com.There’s too many Competitor outside already.I’m thinking Apple’s MobileMe is not finish yet.No matter the AIR/Flex/Flash Technology;the AMP/PSE/Acrobat.com. Adobe had already started, don’t stop the step.
If you cannot understanding my mind,Please forgive me.
    Great gotoAndLearn()

    Hey Lee,

my opinion is your session was the best of them all,
it was full of useful information and at the same time very amusing.
I’d say it was the perfect mix :)
I’m not a czech myself, but as far as I know farting is not considered funny around- it’s just fact of life

Anyways – once more- great session thank you so much

Thanks for your session. I found it perhaps the most interesting of all the sessions as it was not only funny but it actually showed a lot’s of AIR features. BTW, is it somewhere possible to get your amusing applications?

  5. Carnation says:

Lee, great stuff, we enjoyed the farty part too (although most of us have grown up, let’s admit). Make sure next time you stop in Budapest too (I happen to know the two of the best guitar hero players in Hungary).

  6. Petr says:

Thanks for your session. It was nice and really funny.
If it is possible, bring the next onAir tour to Prague again.

I’m a JavaFX guy, but I actually really think about using both. The session was impressive, I cannot imagine Sun doing this for developers (I’d like to say for designers, but we don’t have any;) )
I really enjoyed it, thanks a lot. Now I have to go build my first Flex/AIR stuff ;)

  8. goddard says:

Oh, and don’t forget to say “Hi” to Chet Haase ;)
