Flash CS4 help files now available

For those of you who want to get a head start on learning about the new features in Flash CS4, you can now view all of the help documentation. As I’m sure you have seen already, there is a ton of new stuff to get up to speed on. Below I have the direct links to the help files that I think you will be most interested in. I’m assuming nobody needs an ActionScript 2.0 reference at this point.

The earlier you start learning the better you will feel. These links should keep you busy for a while :-) .

    Thanks for this! It will come in handy this weekend at Flash Camp!

  2. Matt Lewis says:

    Awesome Lee, thanks a lot. Just what I’ve been waiting for!

  3. Ronnie says:

    Hmm the search function doesn’t search the documents? Tried searching something like “sprite” and comes up blank. Maybe it’s not to search the help docs. *shrug*

    @lee Thanks for the list!

  6. Justin_P says:

    Thanks for the heads up, Lee!

    It looks like they added some of the JSFL features that I had requested. We can now add guides from JSFL. I don’t see any listings in the ‘Extending’ section for the new motion tween, though. Hopefully all of that stuff with be available through JSFL.

  7. Thanks lee for these very helpful help links..this is very important for starting with FLASH CS4.

  8. Tabor says:

    Awesome, this should keep me entertained until I actually get to play with CS4!

  9. Gromit says:

    Thanks Lee – very useful!

    (I do wish they’d made the AS3 manual easier to read though!)

  10. Incredible! Thanks for the links. Is time to start with adobe flash cs4.

  11. Cool stuff, although I feel like a complete nerd/geek getting all excited like this about Help Documentation.

    Too excited really, can’t wait to play with all these new classes and the new IDE.

  12. umbrella says:

    Cool, but i wonder where the info is about the columns in the new textcomponents.

    Lee, do you have some info? Maybe it is not added yet? i don’t know.

  13. Clouds says:

    I’m wondering why Flash CS4 doesn’t have an offline help document?

  14. Yea – as I commented on one of your previous posts, I am wondering why there is no offline help for Fl CS4. I assumed that was just because I have been using the prerelease version. Will there be online help in the release version?

    Also, why are you only posting this up now? I posted the link to the docs here (comment 35) over a week ago:

    http://theflashblog.com/?p=443#comments

    Thanks,
    James

  15. Andrew says:

    Thanks for this, gives me something to read for a while. I wondered if it’s possible to animate the IK chains within AS3 rather than on the timeline, I can’t find anything on it. I’m also interested in knowing how to have control of Z-depth now we have basic 3D. Are you allowed to discuss these things, or do we need to wait for release?

    Thanks again, A.

  16. Hi Lee,

    I’ve noticed the FlashCamp event. Is there going to be a FlashCamp London ? If so, when, where ? If not, why ?!

    or should I translate :P

    isFlashCampLondon ? trace(FlashCamp.london.details) : trace(“WHY?!?!”);

    Cheers,
    George

  17. Tronster says:

    “I’m assuming nobody needs an ActionScript 2.0 reference at this point.”
    Everyone I know of using Flash in the game industry (for AAA titles) are using one of two tools, each are based on AS2. Regardless, thanks for posting the CS4 links.

  18. joshiverson says:

    Excellent stuff available!

    Hi, I’ve basically built my website in flash cs4 and been looking really hard on how to get lightbox 2.04 and the flashlightboxinjector to work. But am having real problems. I’ve copied loads of different actionscripts for it to work but all it comes back with is errors.
    For Example:
    place
    1.import flash.external.*;
    2.
    3.btnShowImage.onRelease = function() {
    4. ExternalInterface.call(“myFlashLightBoxInjector.start”, “declineImage1″);
    5.}

    error:
    description- “Statement must appear within on handler”
    source- “import flash.external.*;”
    “btnShowImage.onRelease = function(){

    please help!!!!!!!

  21. Al says:

    I’ve created a document in Flash CS4 where the stage is 580 x 80. I imported a Photoshop document with layers. The artwork in the layers bleeds past the stage dimensions. When I publish my .swf document, the bleeded artwork (that outside the stage/document size) publishes also, and is visible in the final flash animation. Is there a way to only publish the material within the boundaries of the stage?

  22. iria says:

    I’m creating animations on a trial cs4 to then export the file as a .mov to integrate it into a powerpoint presentation. Unfortunately the compressing seems to do some funny things and the mov seems to be quite low quality compared to the .swf one. Is there anything I can make it improve my mov file?

  23. AJ Aerni says:

    HELP!!! I have a ~4 min sound clip that is being cut short and looped at 36 seconds. I downloaded a template from dreamweavergraphics.com to get me started but can’t find where (or why) the music is being cut short and looped back to the beginning at 36 seconds. Please help me…

  24. Daniel says:

    I’m having the exact same problem as Andrew with lightbox2 and lightboxinjector.

    I’ve used the same script, as stated on the lightboxinjector site, but am getting script errors as well.

    Script I’ve used:

    import flash.external.*;

    btnShowImage.onRelease = function() {
    ExternalInterface.call(“myFlashLightBoxInjector.start”, “itpie_info_text_image”);
    }

    Error messages I get in Flash:

    Statement must appear within on handler

    import flash.external.*;

    Statement must appear within on handler

    btnShowImage.onRelease = function(){

    If you had any feed back Andrew then it would be great to know how you sorted it, otherwise if anyone else can help that would be great. Thank you.
