Win $100,000 doing Flash development!

Update: This contest IS open to non-US residents as well.

I’m ecstatic to announce that I will be one of the judges for the $100,000 Killer App Challenge being put on by Ribbit. That’s right, $100,000 will be split up amongst the top winners who do the coolest stuff with the Ribbit technology. This is your chance to make the big time and pocket a huge amount of cash.

Go on over to the contest site to read all of the rules and get signed up to compete. I will be doing a tutorial on how to get started with Ribbit very shortly. What are you waiting for? Go and register now! Now don’t even try to bribe me by sending a new Canon 5D MKII to my house :-) .

“Competitors must be (i) a U.S. citizen, (ii) a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., (iii) a temporary resident, asylee, refugee of the U.S., or have a lawfully issued work authorization card permitting unrestricted employment in the U.S., or (iv) a non-U.S. resident authorized to perform services as an independent contractor.”

So its basically not open for non-us residents.

  7. seanlail says:

Damn! I bet there are tons of devs here in Europe that would’ve entered as well.

  12. Lisa Chand says:

WANTED TO QUICKLY CLARIFY THAT THE CONTEST IS OPEN TO NON-US RESIDENTS with the exception of Quebec (due to local contest restrictions) and the following US embargoed countries: Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Sudan or Syria .

We have expanded the language in the rules so that it is hopefully a bit more clear (please see below).

And, to explain further, the primary intent is to avoid having a member violate their immigration visa, or other employment laws, in the country in which they are located.  And, if there is another reason (for example an employment obligation) that would prevent someone from working as an independent contractor

    New language:

    Eligibility
The Competition is open to all members of the TopCoder website, who have subscribed to the free Ribbit developer services and agreed to the terms thereof, and who are at least 18 years of age. Competitors must be (i) a U.S. citizen, (ii) a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., (iii) a temporary resident, asylee, refugee of the U.S., or have a lawfully issued work authorization card permitting unrestricted employment in the U.S., or (iv) a non-U.S. resident authorized in the country in which the member resides while participating in the competition to perform services as an independent contractor.

A Competitor is not eligible for this Competition if he/she is a resident of the Quebec province of Canada, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Sudan or Syria. In addition, a Competitor is not eligible for this Competition if the Competitor is on the Specially Designated National list promulgated and amended, from time to time, by the United States Department of the Treasury.

    Previous language:

The contest IS open to non-US developers. Sorry for the confusion, but our legal team has clarified… “a non-U.S. resident authorized in the country in which the member resides while participating in the competition to perform services as an independent contractor.”

Go register and good luck: http://killerappchallenge.ribbit.com

  16. Rahmat says:

Hey Lee, if you guarantee me on my win, i’ll split you the prize money.. ;)

  17. Will says:

Well I guess Ribbit had to do something with the $100 million they got from BT!
Call me cynical, but shouldn’t an exciting new platform have people wanting to develop apps with it for free? Dangling this carrot in front of the community smacks of desperation on Ribbit’s part.

  18. Dan says:

Great stuff! Just made my first call :D Now I just need to think of a cool way to use the technology!

  19. ryan says:
