Wii Massager AIR application

I was recently chatting with Thibault Imbert about his amazing WiiFlash project that allows you to use the Wii remote with your Flash applications. He is doing some really cool stuff with it. I immediately thought of an idea for a project and this is the result. It is a personal massager that allows you to control the Wii remote’s rumble function. What I built was an AIR application that has three different vibration settings. Constant mode turns on the vibration permanently until you turn it off. Pulsate gives quick bursts of vibration. Finally, random does just what its name implies. You never know what it’s going to do.

This could have a variety of uses. Imagine you back is hurting. The Wii Massager can help to iron out those trouble spots. You could also give a massage to someone in another room if you boosted the Bluetooth signal. That way you can make someone feel good but still be on the couch watching sports :-) .

The first thing you’ll need to do is download the WiiFlash server and install the correct one for your OS. Then connect the Wii remote using the instructions provided. Finally, launch this AIR application and get things started. Find out more about the WiiFlash project and download the source to start playing with it yourself. I’ll post the source for the AIR application in the next couple of days.

If the badge install doesn’t work for whatever reason, you can download the AIR file directly instead.

Nice one Lee going to try it now .. to see if I can get to sleep (3:16 am) ;p

The rumble always triggers my cat, must do something with that one day.

If anyone is interested in more WiiFlash examples, here are a couple of WiiFlash experiments (with Papervision3D, UMap, Phidgets et cetera), all with sources available:

I especially like the color ;)

  6. deeb says:

Sounds kinky, not sure I’d want my Wiimotes to be used this way.
I know it’s family entertainment, but think of the kids!

  7. Matthew says:

I’m learning a whole lot about you with this post Lee :)

  9. Jeff says:

@lee well, my cat gets all crazy and excited when the remote starts to jive and rumble :-) .

lol. I’m glad that I’m not the only one who immediately thought about the *ahem* ruder applications of this. I can think of at least one multi-billion industry that may be willing to pay you good money to do further research Lee ;)

  15. Jeethu says:

@Lee Awesome app! I was just thinking, with plenty of usage possibilities available for this application, how about you let users set custom easing functions for the vibration ;) lol

  16. @lee, would it be possible to send custom sounds to the Wii Remote using the WiiFlash classes? and uhm yeah we know you made it as a massager …for your back pain problems but….

I can’t but help giggle when I read this post..

Nice way to lock the Adult Industry to Wii… now to prod our research folks in XBOX 360 land on why they should take these kinds of new additions to devices seriously…

Very funny! There’s video course on making Flash things for the Wii on Lynda.com for people who like to play with Flash for Wii

  21. Mr. Non-Existant says:

So yeah, as most people have gathered, you’ve coded a remote controlled vibrator. :)

  22. lee says:

In all honesty, the rumble on the Wii is a little weak to be used in any “adult” manner. Now the XBox 360 controller is a whole other ball of wax :-)

  23. Mr. Non-Existant says:

Do I want to know how you came to that conclusion?

  24. DaveFlash says:

    @Mr. Non-Existant
Quote: “HOW you Came to that conclusion?…..”

    nice phrasing/para-phrasing there…..

  25. Andrew says:

This is impossible to use! I have been running in circles for hours! Can you help me with WiiFlash? How the fuck do I install it?
