Flasher Magazine is now iPod/iPhone/iTunes compatible

I have finally figured out how to make a single mp4 file that looks great both in the Flash player and on the iPhone. In addition I have updated the Flasher site with an RSS feed as well as a button that allows you to subscribe to the magazine via iTunes. You can click this link if you want to subscribe right from here. It will take a couple of days before the magazine will show up in searches in the iTunes store though.

Thanks for all the feedback,
Lee

    Great features.
    Thanks

  2. My colleague Bobby (of SWFObject fame) wrote a nice article about this a while ago, also provided a good way of embedding in such a way that the iPhone picks up the MP4 content instead of the puzzlepiece.

Hi Lee, can you walk us through your quicktime recipe that looks good on iPhone and Flash player? I can make FLVs all day, but I struggle with good looking mp4′s that aren’t half a gig!

    Lee,

Would love to know your methods and settings to accomplish this… sounds like something a lot of us could benefit from.

you can “click this link” does not work.

    itpc://www.flashermag.com/flasher.xml…itpc ? a new protocol:-) ? i think it should be http:////www.flashermag.com/flasher.xml.

  6. thats most definately a tutorial I’d like to see (or a series of tutorials), focusing on taking already made content (originally meant for the web) and converting into i-pod or mobile device content.

Nice, I am sooo anti iPhone tho.

Go out and get a Nokia people lol.

  8. Josh says:

    Lee,

what kind of camera do you use to film the footage? It has great picture quality.

  9. Thanks, this looks great!

  10. PurplG says:

That’s awesome Lee, I was hoping to get this on my iPod.

I loved the issue by the way. It was very well made.

  11. Simon says:

Nice addition but 300+ Megs is a bit on the large side isn’t it? The download takes forever in itunes and the flash version hogs and stutters on my G4 powerbook…

  12. Josh, I’ve asked but I think its a secret

I would guess 1 out of these 2 though, Canon XH-A1 (my baby), Panasonic HMC 150, or if Adobe is paying him the big bucks a HVX 200, not that it matters though cause everyone next choice of prosumer HD camera should be the Scarlet, me ? I’m saving for the Red baby, yeah! (Never happen)

  13. lee says:

@Simon No I think since it is 30 minutes long, 300+ Megs is about right for high quality. Again since you’re downloading it, you can just wait till it gets there. The extra quality is worth it to me. I hate seeing artifacts and compression noise in my stuff.

    @Randall It’s not a secret at all. I use the Canon HV20.

  14. Joey says:

LOVED IT. Great content, great quality. I just got a Canon Vixia HF10 and I would love a tutorial that started with how to capture footage and ended with videos of that quality – CS4 in the middle.

  15. HV20 is without a doubt the best HD consumer camera there is. For the most part the footage is the same as my XH-A1.

Joey- First you have to start off with a great shot with good lighting ect.. then you start with your workflow, capturing to Premiere, editing your rough cut in Premiere, then off to After Effects, then back to Premiere for your final cut, and then finally off to Sorenson Squeeze for the Onlining. Most important thing is not to compress it twice, throughout your workflow use lossless files, then in the very end compress it. There’s a lot of great tutorials on AdobeTV and Adobe Video Workshop, there’s also a great COW tutorial called “Internet killed the video star”. Lee if you don’t want me promoting COW stuff just delete that last line.

  16. lee says:

@randall thanks for the info. I used to do stuff for the Cow so it’s cool :-) . Unfortunately my workflow is a little screwy at the moment. My next blog post will discuss it.

Lee, this video was awesome. NEED MORE. You need to come speak in Florida.

  18. Matt says:

Nice video – great production quality
