Great video tutorial on using Flash Catalyst

Ryan Stewart has just posted his very first video tutorial on using Flash Catalyst. You remember Ryan as the beer guzzling evangelist with the winning smile from the first issue of Flasher. As you’ll see from this tutorial, Ryan is also the authority on all things relating to Catalyst. What’s even more impressive is that Ryan also has a written version of the tutorial in addition to the video. I love that idea but I won’t be doing that for gotoAndLearn anytime soon as it would take too much time. Go on over and check out the video and the written piece and learn about this cool new tool. Hope this is the first of many tutorials!

That is a pretty good tutorial Ryan made, when is the release date for FC?

  2. Kurak says:

Really nice tutorial, and I have to admit that Flash Catalyst is really interesting It will make creating swf’s much easier.

Altrough I how does Flash Catalyst project look when you would like to edit more actionscript.

  3. lee says:

@James Yeah Ryan is the man. He’ll be CEO someday. Ask Ryan about the release date. Not sure.

  4. vi54 says:

Honestly, I adore flash, but this one, once called thermo, is just off the hook!

I can’t wait to get my hands dirty on this awesome release.
Lee please share any info on the release date if you can/may!

    thanks!

  5. Clemente G says:

Wow…This would be great for my girlfriend since she is code illiterate

  6. Nabeel says:

Good one Lee and thank Ryan for us and that Flash Catalys I can’t wait to have it

  7. Joel says:

Maaan…that geek sure talks fast. Catalyst looks rather cool though…

  8. Steven says:

I’m looking very forward to Catalyst. I love the concept of Flex and MXML, but can’t for some reason really get motivated to develop Flex apps. I’m hoping FC changes that for me.

  9. chris s says:

Wow! Where can I get a demo for this product? It seems some people already have it.. o wait, only people who go to MAX get the preview versions of Flex Builder and Flash Catalyst. Which means everyone else is stuck with the crappy flex compiler and has none of the sorely needed improvements. Thanks Adobe! Silverlight is looking really good!

  10. Kevin Martin says:

I really liked the tut. Flash Catalyst is a cool alternative. Can’t wait to get it. :D

  11. lee says:

    @chris Have fun with Silverlight.

  12. Ryan says:

I was able to grab a copy of this at Max and took of the FC sessions and have to say that I’m less than impressed with the release. I wish adobe would have held off a few more months and worked out the bugs. No doubt this tool is going to be huge once its released.

  13. Neil says:

It’;s strange to me that NO ONE mentions the 30,000 ton elephant in the room. What is the future of the FLASH application? Flex already gets most of the coolest components etc. Does Catalyst/Flash Builder represent a move away from a graphical, timeline based interface? Are we facing a future where the hybrid Flash developer/designer(devigner) is an endangered species?

  14. Peter says:

    Tic-Toc-Tic-Toc…

Still waiting for full Fireworks support and a formal release date on FC.
